Rat Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) were isolated from bone marrow of Sprague Dawley (SD) rats at ≤ 8 weeks after gestation. Before cryopreservation, the cells were tested for viability (>70% Post-thaw viability), expression of cell surface markers indicative of MSC (i.e. CD29+, CD44+, CD90+, CD106+) and their ability to differentiate into osteocytes, adipocytes, and chondrocytes. The cells were cryopreserved at passage 4 (P4).

Find the Best Media for Growth and Differentiation
For optimal growth performance, we recommend culturing and expanding the cells in Alpha MEM (32571-036) and MSC-Qualified FBS (12662-011). For differentiation, we recommend StemPro Differentiation Kits—StemPro Osteogenesis Differentiation Kit (A10072-01), StemPro Adipogenesis Differentiation Kit (A10070-01), and StemPro Chondrogenesis Differentiation Kit (A10071-01).
