The CD4, clone S3.5, fluorescein (FITC) conjugate is a monoclonal mouse antibody that recognizes the CD4 antigen also known as T4 and L3T4. Commonly used, fluorescein conjugates provide relatively high absorptivity, excellent fluorescence quantum yield, and good water solubility.

Fluorescein conjugates have been superseded by the Alexa Fluor® 488 dye conjugates, which exhibit a fluorescence emission profile almost identical to fluorescein and exhibits pH-insensitive fluorescence between pH 4 and 10. Specificity for CD4
This antibody recognizes the CD4 antigen also known as T4 and L3T4. CD4 serves as a co-receptor during T-cell activation through the binding of MHC Class II molecules. CD4 is also the receptor for HIV. CD4 is expressed on helper T cells, thymocyte subsets, and to a lesser extent on peripheral blood monocytes.
