The CD3, clone S4.1, TRI-COLOR® dye conjugate is a monoclonal antibody that is reactive to the human CD3 antigen and recognizes the expressed product of the CD3D gene. The TRI-COLOR® conjugate is a tandem R-PE-Cy®5 conjugate that permits simultaneous multicolor labeling and detection of multiple targets with excitation by a single excitation source-the 488 nm line of the argon-ion laser.

Specificity for CD3
This antibody recognizes the CD3 antigen that comprises 5 individual proteins that are responsible for T cell receptor expression and signaling. CD3 is expressed on thymocytes, T cells and some NK cells.

Clinical Relevance
The CD3 monoclonal antibody recognizes the CD3 antigen. The monoclonal antibody may be used to enumerate mature T lymphocytes in human peripheral blood. The CD3 monoclonal antibody may also be used, in combination with other indicators, for the diagnosis or prognosis of some immunodeficiency diseases, including agammaglobulinemia and the severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID), which exhibit decreased percentages of T lymphocytes.

Decreased percentages of T lymphocytes may also be observed in some autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), multiple sclerosis, and Sjorgren’s disease, as well as in certain viral diseases caused by cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr virus. In general, diseases that have decreased cellular immunocompetence as a component may exhibit decreases in CD3+ mature T lymphocytes.
