The membrane-permeant Zn2+ indicator TSQ is selective for Zn2+ in the presence of physiological concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions. Fluorescence of TSQ is enhanced on binding Zn2+ (0.01-10 µM) with no change in emission wavelength (~495 nm in aqueous buffer).
