CD45.1
The CD45, also known as Leucocyte Common Antigen (Ly-5), is an essential regulator of leukocyte activation and development. CD45 is a protein tyrosine phosphatase that dephosphorylates Src family protein kinases. This activity is required for signal transduction that is induced by T and B cell antigen receptor engagement, cytokine signaling, and Fc receptor stimulation. The functional state of CD45 also has a pronounced effect on lymphocyte development. It exists in multiple forms, such as restricted variant isoforms of CD45R (the result of alternative splicing of different exons) and the two allelic forms, CD45.1/Ly-5.1 and CD45.2/Ly-5.2. Notably, antibody specificity between CD45.1 and CD45.2 has been exploited in studies where resolution between donor and recipient cells is essential, such as in bone marrow transplantation and gene therapy. The CD45 mouse monoclonal antibody (mAb) recognizes all mouse leukocytes expressing the CD45.1 allotype.
