Specific for Glucagon
Glucagon is a 29 amino acid peptide hormone involved in gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, and is secreted by Islet of Langerhans alpha cells in the pancreas. The peptide is synthesized as a 180 amino acid precursor and converted to glucagon by PC2 (prohormone convertase 2). The proform can also be converted to three alternate forms: glicentin, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), and glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2). The primary role of glucagon is to stimulate the release of glucose by converting glycogen in the liver, and to maintain glucose homeostasis by a feedback system that also requires insulin.
