Specific for Histone H3 (AcK9)
Histone H3 is a core component of the nucleosome, and plays a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication, and chromosomal stability. Unlike other histones, histone H3 undergoes many post-translational modifications, such as phosphorylation, acetylation, multiple methylation, ubiquitination, and ADP-ribosylation in order to perform its diverse functions. These histones can be acetylated and deacetylated on lysine residues in the N-terminal tail; acetylation removes positive charges on the histones, weakening their interaction with the phosphate backbone of DNA. Chromatin is thereby transformed into a more relaxed structure that is associated with enhanced gene transcription. Acetylation of histone H3 at Lysine 9 (H3K9Ac) is one of the most well known epigenetic markers enriched in the promoter regions of activated genes.
