Specific for p70S6K
The p70 S6 is the ribosomal S6 protein kinase known for its role in modulating cell-cycle progression (for cell growth and G1 cell cycle progression), cell size, and cell survival. In response to mitogen stimulation, p70 S6 kinase activation up-regulates ribosomal biosynthesis and enhances the translational capacity of the cell. p70 S6 kinase phosphorylates the S6 protein of the 40S ribosomal subunit and is involved in translational control of 5' oligopyrimidine tract mRNAs. The activity of p70 S6 kinase is controlled by multiple phosphorylation events that can occur in the catalytic, linker and pseudosubstrate domains. It is phosphorylated and activated by mTOR in mitogenic pathways downstream from phosphoinositide 3-kinase.
