Specific for Apo A1
Apo A1 (apolipoprotein A1) is encoded by a gene on chromosome 11. It is synthesized primarily in the liver, and to a lesser extent in the small intestine, and is regulated by dietary intake of lipids. It is also the major constituent of human high density lipoprotein (HDL), and plays an important role in metabolic and transport function of lipoproteins of the serum. The protein acts as an activator for the enzyme lecithin cholesterol acyl transferase which converts cholesterol to cholesteryl esters. During lypolysis in the peripheral tissue; Apo A1 can also play a role as an acceptor for surface components of very low density lipoproteins and chylomicrons.
