Specific for Apo A2
Apolipoprotein A2 is an important component of human high density lipoproteins. The gene is present on chromosome 1 at the 1q21-1q23 region. The protein is synthesized as a precursor in the liver and the intestine. The protein plays an important role in hepatic lipase reaction. The protein also has functions similar to those of Apo A1, which has the ability to take up cholesterol and phospholipids from cell membranes, though the protein does not undergo any changes as seen with Apo A1 in the presence of lecithin cholesterol acyl transferase.
