Oligoclonal antibodies are produced by transfection of mammalian cells with heavy and light chain antibody cDNAs. Platelet-derived growth factor receptor - alpha polypeptide (PDGFR-alpha), belongs to the protein tyrosine kinase family. The PDGF receptor subfamily consists of two isoforms - alpha and beta. PDGF receptors are cell surface receptors and mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. Activated PDGF receptors are involved in control of cell growth, actin reorganization, migration, and differentiation in various signaling pathways. Mutation of PDGFR-alpha in humans results in cleft palate-type malformations. Postnatally, PDGFR-alpha is associated with gliomas and fibrotic disorders of lung, heart, and skin (scleroderma). In human, the gene encoding PDGFR-alpha is located on the q arm of chromosome 4.
