Specific for AKT [pT308]
AKT, a serine threonine kinase also known as protein Kinase B, is important for the regulation of cell survival (Ref 1). AKT also has key roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, glucose metabolism, and protein synthesis. It can be activated by cytokines and growth factors in the phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase-dependent manner (Ref 2). It is activated by phosphorylation of specific kinases and the activity of AKT is reduced by phosphorylation of site-specific phosphatases. Protein synthesis activated by AKT is via mTOR / P70S6K, while inactivating and phosphorylating apoptotic enzymes including Ask1, Bad, Bax, and FoxO3a promote cell survival (Ref 3). AKT is activated by phospholipid binding and activation loop phosphorylation by PDK1 at threonine 308 (Ref 4).
