BAFF, or TNFSF13b (tumor necrosis factor (ligand) superfamily, member 13b), is a cytokine expressed in B cell lineage cells. This cytokine binds to receptors TNFRSF13B/TACI, TNFRSF17/BCMA, and TNFRSF13C/BAFFR and is a potent B cell activator. It is important for the proliferation and differentiation of B cells. Isoforms representing alternatively spliced variants have been identified. BAFF and a related ligand APRIL are expressed by T lymphocytes and have been shown to promote T cell activation and survival.
