Interleukin 12 (IL12) is also known as Natural killer cell stimulatory factor (NKSF). It is produced primarily by macrophages, neutrophils and dendritic cells. Interleukin 12 is a regulatory cytokine important for mediating cellular immune responses. It is a disulphide linked heterodimeric cytokine with a 40 KDa subunit (p40) and a 35 KDa subunit. It helps in induction of cytotoxic activities, proliferation and Th1 cell development. Human and mouse IL12 p40 share about 70% amino acid sequence homology.
