Adiponectin is a hormone that is exclusively produced in adipose tissue and secreted into plasma. It is involved in a number of metabolic processes, such as glucose regulation and the metabolism of fat for energy production. Adiponectin is involved in the control of fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity. It plays an important role in helping to ameliorate disorders such as obesity, diabetes and atherosclerosis.
