The TaqMan® Salmonella Enteritidis Detection Kit is part of a comprehensive workflow that enables users to rapidly detect Salmonella Enteritidis in poultry egg and environmental samples. The workflow utilizes TaqMan® chemistries and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect Salmonella Enteritidis from egg and environmental samples in approximately 27 hours. This is the fastest-time-to-results workflow available that has been shown to be equivalent to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) method of Salmonella Enteritidis detection in poultry eggs and approved by National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) for use in Salmonella Enteritidis detection in environmental samples. • Clears and ships eggs faster by obtaining results in hours instead of days • Decision equivalency with FDA’s method, and NPIP interim approval, allows you to be confident that egg and environmental samples tested are Salmonella Enteritidis free • High level of specificity helps to minimize chances for false positives and cross reactivity with non-regulated organisms
Test Eggs and Environmental Samples Faster With as little as 27 total hours to results, egg producers can test implicated eggs in the shortest time currently available; roughly ten times faster than the traditional FDA BAM method. Not needing to hold large amounts of eggs in house, while waiting multiple days for test results, allows producers to reduce inventory, associated costs and get the freshest product to market. In addition, 27 hour time to results for environmental samples compared to three days for the traditional method allows producers to identify environmental contamination fast and quickly respond to take the appropriate corrective actions.
Equivalence with FDA Method and NPIP Approved The FDA has determined that the workflow using the TaqMan® Salmonella Enteritidis Detection Kit is equivalent in accuracy, precision, and detection sensitivity to the test method set forth in the Chapter 5 (Salmonella) of the FDA's Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM, December 2007 Edition). In addition, the NPIP has granted interim approval for the TaqMan® Salmonella Enteritidis Detection Kit workflow as a rapid screening method for Salmonella Enteritidis in environmental drag swab samples.
Sensitive and Specific Detection of Salmonella Enteritidis in Egg and Environmental Samples The egg testing method enables the user to accurately detect down to 1 to 5 cfu of Salmonella Enteritidis from an entire 1L pooled egg enrichment, helping to assure egg producers that their entire pooled egg sample is free of Salmonella Enteritidis. In addition, the high specificity of molecular PCR based technology greatly helps to minimize the chances of false positives and cross reactivity with non-regulated organisms.
Automated, Reliable, High-Throughput PCR Sample Preparation The TaqMan® Salmonella Enteritidis Detection Kit workflow utilizes MagMAX™ Express-96 Deep Well automated processing equipment and PrepSEQ® Nucleic Acid Extraction Kit purification chemistries for a completely automated DNA sample prep from your egg pool or environmental sample enrichment. Simply prepare the instrument, add your sample and press start for completely automated DNA extraction and purification of up to 96 samples for use in the PCR detection assay on the Applied Biosystems® 7500 Fast instrument.
Simple, Three-Step Procedure Minimal training or prior experience is needed for you to perform each step of the Salmonella Enteritidis detection workflow. The entire procedure consists of three simple steps (Figure 1). 1. Enrich for possible Salmonella Enteritidis — enrich pooled shelled eggs or environmental samples in growth media (24Hrs) 2. Extract DNA — automated DNA extraction with MagMAX™ Express 96 Deep Well Instrument with PrepSEQ® Nucleic Acid Extraction Kit (1Hr) 3. Run test for Salmonella Enteritidis — analyze DNA using the TaqMan® Salmonella Enteritidis Detection Kit and a 7500 Fast real-time PCR machine (typically in 2Hrs) Qualitative real-time PCR assay for the detection of Salmonella Enteritidis from pre-enriched poultry egg and environmental samples.
